Ceramics

In May and June 2007, more than 600 SES students had the opportunity to make individual works of art out of clay. Each piece was formed, fired, glazed, and fired again.  Since students have art only once a week, this was a giant project lasting more than a month.  Our art teacher and  her helpers spent countless after-school hours to get the firing done. The final projects show great imagination and talent. Thanks, Miss O., for having the enthusiasm, energy, and confidence to teach this unit!  You rock!!

Younger students made hand prints. Other students made "pinch pots."
Some classes made suns or other flat works. Many students chose to form their own figures.

To do the glazing students needed to visualize their final product and trust the
color names on the containers. The colors change during firing in the kiln.
