Schweinella's R & R and Wilbur's
Promotion! |
|
April 2008:
Schweinella had a long and rough
trip from Afghanistan to Schweinfurt. It was all worth it once she was reunited
with Wilbur and little Wilnella. They rested a few days in Schweinfurt and then
went to Garmisch. From there they headed off to Vincenza, Venice, Pisa
and Livorno Italy. They came back and rested a few days before she had
to report back to duty in Afghanistan. Schweinella returned to FOB Naray and
is once again working hard for the 1-91 CAV and the
citizens of Afghanistan. She has great memories of her R&R,
and is excited about coming back to Schweinfurt sometime this summer.

Upon her return
to Afghanistan, Schweinella was pleased to find out that
children from SES had written letters to the deployed
soldiers. April was the Month of the Military Child, and SES
sponsored a table at the Family Palooza on Askren Manor.
The idea for the table was to reinforce the writing
standards and give children a way that they could support
the deployed soldiers. Children either colored a picture or
wrote a letter to the soldiers of 1-91 CAV to let them know
Schweinfurt supports them and to help them get through
the last few months of their deployment. It was a great
project and the letters gave a lot of joy to the soldiers as
can be seen in the pictures below. |

May 22, 2008:
SES students attended a special assembly. The 1-77
Unit (formally 1-7 FA) presented our mascot, Wilbur
Schweinfurt, with the patch of his reflagged unit.
Wilbur was also awarded a combat patch for his two tours of
duty with the unit and was promoted from SPC to SGT. Members
of the 1-91 CAV group showed a slide show of GEN Flat
Schweinella's adventures in Afghanistan. (pictures
